A.I Statement

🤖 A.I Statement

We have provided a statement regarding our stance on A.I and where and where not we use it in our content.

Read on to learn more about our principles regarding A.I and generative A.I

“A.I generated content is sometimes referred to as AI Slop. The only slop around these parts is real, as real as the people we feature in our content. Real and physical.” – Pete, Founder and Director Of The Splat! Show

“Does it really make a difference if you cannot tell if it’s real or not? Of course it matters. Authenticity is everything in a world full of lazy, fake, and misleading content.” – Literally anyone who is human, not lazy, can think for themselves and has even the tiniest piece of their own creative spirit.

Artificial intelligence is a promising emerging technology with the potential to improve everyone’s lives.  However, like any significant technical advancement, it also presents certain dangers and risks.

To maintain transparency about our operations, we’ve released this statement to inform you of our AI usage.

Where We Do Not Use Generative A.I

First and foremost, we want to emphasise that we will never feature AI-generated people or humans in our content. This is the essence of The Splat! Show – the content we release.  The joy of The Splat! Show lies in featuring real, authentic human beings.  We get to know their backgrounds, perspectives and so much more, qualities that AI simply can’t replicate.  Current AI-generated humans lack these qualities and feel soulless and inauthentic, making them unsuitable for The Splat! Show.

AI can’t, and may never be able to, replicate the authentic, spontaneous reactions we experience when featuring real people. Our content showcases genuine emotions and reactions, unique to each person we feature.  This contrasts sharply with the stiff and odd reactions seen in AI-generated content.  Real human-created content simply surpasses AI in various aspects.

The Splat! Show is crafted and created by humans for humans in the real world.  Nothing in our content is fake or fabricated using generative AI. It’s authentically human, and that’s how it should always be. We invest all our creative, manual and emotional effort into creating our content in the real world, working with real people for real people to enjoy.

To clarify, we’ve placed a label (pictured below) on our content index pages next to each piece of content. This label indicates that the content featured doesn’t include any AI-generated material.  So, the people you see are real, human beings, and their experiences are genuine, not computer-generated. It might sound strange, but as AI advances, we believe it will become increasingly difficult to distinguish real people from those created by AI.

Bottom line: We will never, and have no plans, to replace real people with A.I. in our content. Our content will ALWAYS feature authentic real human content.

Where We May Use A.I.

Artificial intelligence can be a valuable tool for us. As a small business, we find it helpful for various tasks like ensuring compliance across our operations and even for proofreading our website content. All written content on this site is written by a human, but we may use AI tools to correct errors and structures.

We also use AI for some graphic work you might see on our website, such as game logos.

However, please be aware that our music and logo are not AI-generated. We’ve paid artists to create them and will continue to do so where necessary.

We have recently tested using AI to upscale some of our older content we present in our Fan Club “Retro Stream” content. This is footage that was captured in the early 2000s and, as such, the quality of the footage is not great. We use an AI model (not generative AI) to upscale this content to make it sharper. This is called video upscaling. We also use our own hardware to run this model without the need to send it off to data centres and thus avoiding the negative impacts it may have on the environment.

In summary, we incorporate AI into our workflows for writing, checking and document creation, but this isn’t included in our main content releases.

Protecting Our Brand

Regrettably, AI companies are notorious for scraping the web and utilising content to train their models.  To safeguard ourselves during this period, we’ve trademarked our logo and name.  We’ll employ existing laws and any future legislation to protect our brand at all costs. Consequently, you’re prohibited from using the Splat! Show Logo (or anything similar) or the Splat! Show name in any content you create and publish using AI. A reminder: you cannot copyright work created by A.I, you can only copyright human-made works. We will aggressively protect our content and brand using all our resources if necessary.
